Urgently Required for October 2020

NIST is looking for an effective and collaborative educator to join our team. The full time student support coach will work with a team of student support coaches supporting the academic, social-emotional, and behavioural needs of a small group of students. Experience with learners who have autism-related needs is preferred, as would some understanding of the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The successful candidate’s central focus would be in supporting the learners access the academic demands across a range of subjects whilst also supporting the learner to successfully navigate the secondary school years. The candidate will have an educational degree and at least some familiarization/ specialization with students with learning needs. Outstanding communication (both written/ spoken) is also expected.

Professional expectations:

  • Excellent references indicating a passion for teaching and learning
  • Working 1:1 with students as in class support
  • Deconstructing the academic material to make it accessible for the students (with support from team)
  • Working closely with the subject teachers to seek ways for the students to be part of an inclusive classroom
  • Being patient, caring, flexible and clear about learning intentions (growth mindset)
  • Collecting, analyzing and using data to track growth and determine next steps for the learners
  • Seeking opportunities to support greater student agency but also appreciating the importance of structured support and skills development
  • Collaborating with support personnel (classroom teacher, learning support teacher, behavioural specialists, student support coaches) to determine best practices for students’ growth across academic and social spheres
  • Feeling comfortable to support the students to function in an environment where the academic material will need to be potentially significantly modified
  • Helping students learn how to respond appropriately to his/her peers in social situations
  • Encouraging and motivating students to be positive in his/her approach to learning whilst also helping to improve the students’ self-esteem and belief as a learner
  • Identifying situations when calming or recovery strategies may be needed
  • Collaborating with the learning support (LS) and behavioural specialists, and classroom teachers to develop and implement a Differentiated Learning Plan (DLP)
  • Participating in regular planning meetings with classroom teachers and LS and behavioural specialists
  • Preparing resources to support learning
  • Providing regular feedback to the classroom teachers, LS specialist, and parents
  • Participating in LS team meetings, staff meetings and In-Service days (when applicable)
  • Ensuring realistic but high expectations
  • Staying abreast of best practices with learning challenges
  • Appreciating the impact of differentiated formative assessment (as, for, and of learning)
  • Familiarity with effective use technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Pedagogical practices in line with the school’s mission, vision and values
  • Utilization of different cultural practices in line with international mindedness
  • Willingness to seek pre-emptive support when uncertain
  • Adherence to NIST’s Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct and NIST’s Professional Code of Conduct
  • Supporting school community, professional standards, and trust
  • Completing all duties as defined by the school’s leadership for the designated roles

Qualifications & Other Requirements

  • Formal police clearance check
  • Valid passport or Thai ID Card
  • No restrictions on work permit/VISA applications.
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree holder
  • Outstanding communication skills in English (both written/ spoken)
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Preferred candidate with substantial knowledge of IB MYP/DP programme
  • Have at least 2 years of teaching experience
